UPDATE Friday 29 June - Unauthorised encampment in Wheathampstead

Submitted on 29 June 2018 by Ellie Metherell

Following the departure of the travellers from Wheathampstead, the clear-up process has begun at Butterfield Road Playing Fields. Approximately one skip load of rubbish has been collected and the team are sanitising the area. The padlock on the gate has been replaced and we are also evaluating the access for all our open spaces.

The County Council, as the landowner of Butterfield Road Playing Fields, followed the legal procedures as quickly as the law allowed and worked closely alongside all relevant authorities, such as the police, ourselves and St Albans District Council.

The Parish Council would like to thank all of those involved in dealing with this unlawful incursion, including those who contacted the police regarding suspicious activity and antisocial behaviour. Please continue to be vigilant and report any immediate concerns by calling 999.

If your concern is not an emergency, please call 101 or use the web chat or online reporting at www.herts.police.uk/Information-and-services/About-us/Contact
