Wheathampstead Parish Council owns and operates the Memorial Hall in Wheathampstead as a community facility. The Main Hall, Hewitt Room and Green Room are all available for separate hire.
The Main Hall is 11m by 12.5m with a raised stage (8.5m x 5m), full stage lighting and electrically operated curtains. The hall has a maximum capacity of 170 seated and 240 standing.
We have an audio-visual system that will allow high quality films and presentations to be shown on a new 4m screen. A high-resolution projector has been permanently installed and hangs from the roof, new speakers and a new hearing loop have also been installed, with acoustic baffles around the Hall to reduce the echo.
The Green Room (3.5 m x 5.5m) is located behind the stage for actors to change and prepare for performances. Lighting is controlled from a lighting loft at the rear of the hall. This room is also available for small meetings.
The Main Hall has immediate access to the well-equipped kitchen and a concertina-style partition can be removed to connect to a separate hiring room, the Hewitt Room, which has a full bar facility and separate access to the kitchen. The Hewitt room is 6m x 9m and can also be hired out separately.
All facilities include folding tables that can easily be moved around and set up by a single person. There is also a large stock of comfortable chairs – enough to provide seating for 150.
The Memorial Hall also houses the Parish Council Offices, the village library and police office. The library has its own entrance but internal access between the hall and library is possible. There is ample parking which is shared by the Memorial Hall, library and doctors’ surgery that occupies the same site.
One of the main features or the Memorial Hall is that it is adjacent to the village’s playing fields, with wonderful views across the Lea Valley.
